ALUMNI HELP RECRUIT INTERNATIONAL TALENT

Alumni in North America have been assisting the University with recruitment events across the USA and Canada.
The University’s International Office has been working alongside the Development and Alumni department to host a series of events in March aimed at encouraging international students to consider continuing their studies at Edinburgh.
The events, attended by both prospective students and local alumni, took place in New York City, Boston, Washington DC, Palo Alto in California, and Toronto.
The students were encouraged to ask themselves, “Why choose the University of Edinburgh?”, and, through an interactive presentation about the academic and social life at the University, were able to consider Edinburgh as a viable choice for them.
Alumni of all ages and varied backgrounds generously offered their time to share personal experiences of life at the University and in the City of Edinburgh, as well as the different career paths they have followed.
This proved to be a valuable resource for students eager to hear first-hand accounts of time spent as a University of Edinburgh student.
The events form part of a new University initiative aimed at offering alumni a tangible role in assisting the recruitment of talented international students.
Liesl Elder, Director of Development & Alumni said, "Our international alumni are an important part of the University community. We are delighted that so many have found the time to help Edinburgh recruit the next generation of talented students."
An international community
Our North American alumni are part of a global network of graduates who regularly gather for social and networking purposes.
Other recent international events include the first annual gathering of European graduates in Brussels, while alumni are set to descend on Hong Kong in June for a weekend of events and social activities.
We currently have 25 active clubs and groups across the world, and encourage all of our alumni to keep in touch with the University and each other, and assist us in promoting a positive message to the World about the student experience at Edinburgh.
