Supporting Pioneering Ideas

Edinburgh’s neuroscientists want a future where Alzheimer’s, dementia, and Multiple Sclerosis can be successfully treated; our world-leading informatics team want to create the next generation of supercomputers; our climate change researchers are searching for a solution to the major challenge facing the
planet; our cardiology team want to see heart disease confined to history.

The Edinburgh Fund awards Innovation Initiative Grants to pioneering research projects, allowing The University of Edinburgh’s greatest minds to transform today’s life-changing ideas into tomorrow’s reality.

Changing lives

The Edinburgh Fund helps support the University's most important research initiatives. Dr McIntosh, from the College of Medicine and Veterinary Medicine, was awarded a Grant to lead novel research the pathophysiology of schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. Pathophysiology is the study of the changes of normal, mechanical, physical, and biochemical functions.

Dr McIntosh believes that future developments in schizophrenia diagnosis, intervention and disease prevention will depend upon such insights, as in the past.
