This year, for the first time, the University of Edinburgh is asking the parents of graduating students to mark the occasion of their son’s or daughter’s graduation and make a special contribution to the University Library in their child’s name. In return for their support, a special bookplate bearing the name of the student/graduate will be inserted into a new book within the library collection.
As well as contributing to the vital work of the Library, parents and students will be reviving a tradition that began in the earliest years of the University, a time when students were not allowed to graduate until they had donated a book!
This is a unique opportunity for parents to ensure that their child’s achievement is commemorated, and at the same time ensuring the continued development of the Library’s resources for future generations of students.
